Elementary School Tour
Duffy Elementary School
Thursday, November 14
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The Duffy Elementary School library is an active learning environment that provides a diverse collection of children’s literature and technology resources for over 575 students and staff. Through weekly sessions, K-5 students have assured literacy and technology lessons. Additional sign up for flexible lab or library time may also be utilized by classes. Recently, the program has acquired Wi-Fi capabilities and laptop mobile labs, so network technology resources can be accessed in two class labsets, throughout the building. In addition to the lab classroom in the media center, the library has a Publication Station. Similar to a classroom learning center, students may work on laptops, in small groups or individually, to write book reviews, create multi-media projects, and conduct research. In addition, the library media program facilitates a student “Be the Media” video team that covers school news and broadcasts on our local West Hartford Community Television, channel 5. Annually, the library program hosts one or more author events - one of the most recent authors in residence was Jacqueline Davies. Each spring, the library facilitates a fourth and fifth grade book club based on a selection of books from the Connecticut Nutmeg Award book finalists.
Tour departs from the Convention Center.
An additional registration fee of $45 is required in advance of the event.
